Did you all check out “Undercover Boss” on Friday night? What did you think about Alfred Angelo’s President, Paul Quentel, and the amazing employees who shared their stories? I, for one, was in hysterics during Leeanne’s reveal. How touching!
Behind the Scenes with Paul Quentel, Our “Undercover Boss”
1. What prompted you to join “Undercover Boss?”
CBS approached us and the timing was perfect. We’d made a lot changes in our retail operations over the last year, and I wanted to see for myself if they’d been implemented. Plus, you have to remember, as a 48 year old male, I’m not sure there would be any other way to see what was really going on in a bridal shop than undercover.
2. Were there any stand-out or surprising moments you can share?
There were so many memorable moments. Some were funny, like when our store manager in Cherry Hill, NJ, asked me to clean the store and I had a little too much fun vacuuming. Others were extremely emotional, like when I heard from an employee in one of our Virginia stores who is hearing impaired. Her story of challenge and triumph really touched me. You’ll have to tune into the show on November 1 to see all of the great moments and more for yourself.
3. Did anyone recognize you while you were dressed as your “Undercover Boss” persona?
No one recognized me at the time. But after we wrapped the “Undercover Boss” project and employees found out what was going on, someone came forward and said she thought Lee Jeffries, my alter-ego, looked a bit too familiar.
4. What commitments or changes did you implement as a result of the show?
I pride myself on being close with the front line, but “Undercover Boss” opened my eyes to some opportunities for improvement I’m not sure I’d have learned otherwise. Some of these changes included: technology updates, better communication from the senior management staff and more timely incentives for the sales teams. We’re already working on these and other initiatives we garnered from the show.
5. What was your biggest takeaway from your “Undercover Boss” experience?
In all honesty, I thought we had a great company with dedicated employees before “Undercover Boss.” Through the show, I really got to know people and the work that they do—and boy, we have an entire company of fun, energetic, hard-working and patient staff members. These folks are working with brides and their families to help create the most perfect day of their lives. That’s not an easy task. I applaud all Alfred Angelo employees for making dreams come true—both for brides and for me.
Check out “Undercover Boss” on CBS this Friday, November 1 at 8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT; 7:00-8:00 PM, CT. Paul Quentel will be live-tweeting during the show. Ask him about his experience at https://twitter.com/alfredangelo.
